POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN AUDIO AND MULTISENSORY RESEARCH

A position for a Postdoctoral Fellow is available within the Auditory
Research Group at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory ate Aberdeen Proving
Ground, MD.

Our research is focused in multimodal communication (hearing, vision,
touch), virtual reality, auditory localization and orientation, bone
conduction communication, and multi-channel speech communication. Our
current laboratory includes reverberant and anechoic chambers, HRTF
measurement facility, spatial listening system (37 loudspeakers),
audio-visual CAVE, and ability to create sound levels up to 150 dBP.
At the
end of 2007 we are moving some of our research to a new laboratory suite
called the Environment for Auditory Research (EAR). The EAR facility
includes four laboratory spaces developed specifically to study various
aspects of auditory virtual reality, spatial audio systems, auditory
distance estimation, auditory skills development, and multisensory
communication. Our current research activities include developing
spatial
auditory imagery using bone conduction signals, researching multichannel
vibro-tactile communication, audio-visual deception, sound detection and
localization models, and optimization of multisensory performance.
Candidates for the postdoctoral position must have a doctoral degree in
acoustics, psychology, audiology, hearing science, computer science
or other
related discipline; be a U.S. citizen; and have or be able to obtain a
secret security clearance. Familiarity with digital audio and
programming
expertise in C/C++, Matlab, Java, or Visual Basic is very desirable.
Some
knowledge of psychoacoustics or neuroscience is a plus. Initial
contract is
for a twelve month period with a stipend up to about $60,000
depending on
experience. It is expected that the contract will be extended for
another
twelve-month period. Permanent employment at the end of the contract
