[D-multisensory] Reminder - Symposium deadline



Dear Colleague,

The 9th International Congress of Behavioral 
Medicine will be held November 29 - December 2, 
2006 in Bangkok, Thailand.  This is the biannual 
conference of the International Society of Behavioral 
Medicine. The website for information, abstract 
submission, etc. is: http://www.9icbm-2006.org/ 

Those of you who have attended these conferences 
in the past, know the program to be very diverse and 
to have a high level content, stimulating international 
perspectives, and lots of local hospitality. 

THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS IS MARCH 1 
WHICH IS LESS THAN 8 WEEKS AWAY!

CONFERENCE THEME: Bridging Behavior and 
Health - Connecting the Hemispheres

CONGRESS DATES: November 29 - December 2, 
2006

VENUE: Bangkok, Thailand - Sofitel Central Plaza 
Hotel

Arrangements for the 9th International Congress of 
Behavioral Medicine in Bangkok are proceeding 
very well. Bangkok is a very exciting and vibrant city 
and the Local Organizing Committee is organizing a 
wonderful social program and lots of other 
associated events which are being regularly updated 
on the website. Abstract submissions for oral papers, 
symposia and posters can now be submitted via the 
Congress website:  http://www.9icbm-2006.org/. The 
Program Committee is very keen that the congress 
program be the most diverse and most 
representative of all regions of the world as any 
ICBM held so far. So, please encourage your 
colleagues and others from around the globe to 
make submissions by the due date for abstract 
submission, March 1, 2006.  Please also contact the 
Program Chair (Brian Oldenburg at 
b.oldenburg@qut.edu.au ) if you have any other 
ideas or suggestions for the program, for example, 
topics for roundtable sessions that can be scheduled 
for the lunchtime sessions on Thursday, Friday and 
Saturday. 

Major program highlights at this stage include:

* Three Keynotes - Michael Meaney from Canada, 
Karen Matthews from USA and Anuar Zaini from 
Malaysia.

* Four Master Lectures - Leenah Hsu from 
USA/Thailand, Norito Kawakami from Japan, Terrie 
Moffitt from UK and Manfred Schedlowski from 
Switzerland

* Two Panel Sessions:
  - Prakash C. Gupta (India) & Prakit Vathesatogkit 
(Thailand) - Challenges for tobacco control in 
countries undergoing rapid transition (Chaired by 
Ron Borland, Australia)
 - Ruth Bonita (Switzerland) & Liming Lee (China) - 
Regional and global health challenges for health 
systems (Chaired by Robert Kaplan, USA)

* Workshops:  Topics include multi-level and 
structural equation modelling; International network 
on physical activity and the environment; Integration 
of evidence from research and professional 
expertise; Interventions for stress, metabolic 
syndrome, somatic complaints, obesity and in 
obstetrics and gynecology; and International 
approaches to health communication, information 
technologies in health behaviour research, and 
development of behavioural medicine curricula.
