[1999-10-26] Russia intends to participate in the reconstruction of Tajura
Nuclear Research Centre in Libya, reports Russian Military News Agency. A
meeting takes place in Moscow Tuesday between Libya's Energy Secretary,
Abdallah Salim, and Russian Emergency Situations Minister, Sergei Shoigu.
Russia might also help Libya with designing of an earlier planned Sultan
Nuclear Power Plant. Today's meeting in Moscow became possible after the UN
Security Council lifted sanctions against Libya.

comment: I also hear that the Russians have a lot of excess plutonium from
decommissioned nuclear warheads to get rid of....
....both Greenpeace Canada and the CCNR (Gord Edwards) feel its better to
keep the W-Pu in Russia, than to convert it to MOX and burn it in CANDU &
other NPPs.
