RE: [cdn-nucl-l] RIDICULOUS speech in Congress on EPA and CFL light bulbs

How is it even possible that someone like yourself, Jerry, that exposes the
over-hyped dangers of low doses of radiation can advertise such ridiculous,
politically-minded fear mongering dribbled onto the floor of the US Congress
about dangers of mercury in CFL bulbs that include such outrageously
hypocritical statements like “Oh I yearn for the day when America took care
of Americans by developing our own abundant natural resources, like coal…” –
burning coal being BY FAR the largest source of environmental mercury
release (www.epa.gov/hg/)!

Not to mention fear mongering statements about threats to the health of
American dogs, cats, and children by products made in China - the same
threats that regulations enacted and enforced by the EPA attempt to thwart!
- and espousing the evil of CFLs simply because they are only produced in
China. One might just wonder if Rep. Poe’s statements MIGHT be influenced
by his generous support over the years by the energy sector
(www.opensecrets.org/politicians/industries.php?cycle=Career&cid=N00026457&t
ype=I)...

CFLs are better than incandescent bulbs because they use <1/4 the power to
produce the same amount of light, they last on average 6X longer, produce
<1/4 of the heat, and they cost FAR less over their lifecycle
(www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=find_a_product.showProductGroup&pgw
_code=LB). THANK GOODNESS our government is sufficiently enlightened to
regulate use of technologies with such unquestionable benefits over its
predecessors.

Some resources which are infinitely more reliable than the dribble from Rep.
Poe:

www.lamprecycle.org/public/images/docs/LD+A%20August%202009.pdf
“Actually, the amount of mercury that you are actually exposed to by
breaking a lamp is no more than you subject yourself to when eating a bite
of tuna.”

The EPA, which includes directions on disposal: www.epa.gov/cfl
Health Canada: www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hl-vs/iyh-vsv/prod/cfl-afc-eng.php

And any one of dozens of peer-reviewed studies on the impact that CFLs have
on the environment and energy efficiency, including a short selection of
recent articles listed below.

All the best,
Adam

The green ideology and the EPA ...

"I've hated these bulbs since they first came out because they are so ugly,
and since I've found out they contain mercury and need to be disposed of
very carefully, I detest them even more.  Anyone know where I can get the
old fashioned ones?   P"

Canada has done this also.  Just as dumb.

Take 5 min. and watch and listen. You'll be amazed!
