Energy strategy ignored, coalition says
Quebec bullish on shale gas
By MICHELLE LALONDE, The Gazette September 9, 2010 4:04 AM
Quebec environment groups sounded an energetic alarm yesterday, accusing the
Liberal government of making "incoherent and irresponsible" energy choices.
The province is also planning to spend almost $2 billion to refurbish the
Gentilly-2 nuclear plant in Becancour despite clearly expressed anti-nuclear
sentiment, Darier said.
The groups are also calling on those concerned about energy issues to join
in a protest march on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Place Riopelle, in front of the
Palais des Congres.
<snip>....next week, the World Energy Congress, an international event held
every three years, comes to Montreal, bringing 3,500 participants from
various energy-related businesses, industry associations, governments, and
universities from around the world.
