[cdn-nucl-l] The Economist

The Economist Technology Quarterly December 12th  2009. Economist has a 3 page article

“ Nuclear’s Next Generation “ in which on page 16 discusses the SCWR and quotes

Willy Cook of University of New Brunswick in Canada as saying  “current reactor materials that crack corrode excessively , while materials that do not corrode excessively crack.”

Here is some background from the website of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS).

At the Workshop of the Canadian National Committee of IAPWS held in Toronto, May 12, 2009,

Professor William Cook presented a paper “Materials and Corrosion Product Behaviour Under CANDU-SCWR Conditions”. The paper can be downloaded

I have never seen UNB mentioned before in the Economist, so congratulations to my friend Willy Cook.

For years I have had the Economist delivered by mail weekly because when I traveled a lot, I found it good to read in the plane or at the airport. Also the paper quality is such that it will dry out if dropped in the bath; good environmental design. From Neil Craik near UNB, Fredericton.
