[cdn-nucl-l] Carrying Small Rad Sources in Personal Luggage

Hello,

Some radioactive sources may be transported as "excepted packages" ,
i.e their radioactivity exceeds transport exemption limits for being
"radioactive", but the dose rate from the sources is < 5 uSv/h (a
chunk of uranium ore, or a small amount of yellowcake used for
teaching/demonstration purposes might be examples).

What if one wants to carry such a source with them on an airplane,
such as in checked luggage? Does the pilot/airline have to be
informed? How? What documentation is required?

Please feel free to respond directly to me.
