FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE At 10:00 p.m. this evening, Linda Keen, President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, received a letter from the Privy Council Office indicating that the government adopted an Order in Council terminating her designation as President of the Commission, effective immediately. The letter further indicates that she remains a full-time permanent member of the Commission. Tomorrow, the Standing Committee of Natural Resources has scheduled Ms. Keen as a witness to discuss nuclear safety issues, including safety issues at the Chalk River nuclear reactor. At the present time, it is Ms. Keen¡¯s intention to appear before Committee as planned. What's wrong with CNSC? If someone could be fired by the reason that he/she did his/her duty within laws, who would want to take the role of regulation of nuclear safety again? Could it be independent and political-neutral? I think it is a great mislead and damage of regulation practice of Canada. If they want to find something to blame, it should be unfinished MAPLE not the regulatory. S.H. Lee |
