Re: [cdn-nucl-l] How about we build a Canadian nuclear wiki/portal?
Randal,
Thanks for the feedback on the radio bit and on the wiki. Good idea
about it being a good place to catch the latest. The beauty of the
wiki is that it tends to be neutral because rants and biases tend to get
quickly corrected by the hopefully sane common voice of the
informed. We can only try.
Oh, I added some navigational links to the page you added so that it
shows up in the Index. I am hoping that in time someone will add
some meat to your page. If it remains as a simple link then that
can be done directly off the Companies page.

Folks,
We have a lot of web sites in Canada that deal with specific aspects of
nuclear from specific points of view. Here are some that come to
mind: CNS, CNS, AECL, utilities, OCI, CNSC, university departments,
UNENE, consultants, this email list, and so on. I think we are long
overdue for the creation of a single web entry point for the Canadian
Nuclear Enterprise.
Hi Bill ....
I heard you on the radio today talking about leaks at Pickering. I
thought you were very sensible in your comments. The big problem is
that we just don't know the facts, and everyone is ready to assume the
worst. There have been a number of public relations disasters this
summer - Germany, Japan, and now Pickering. The nuclear industry
has a pretty good safety culture - it now needs to develop a public
relations culture. In my opinion a lot more openness is
needed.
I added a reference to a company on the wiki. I think the wiki is a
good idea. One thing it may be able to do is contribute to a better
public relations culture for the nuclear industry. For example, it
should be the place to go for all the latest info about this Pickering
issue. I find it really difficult to get good information about
problems at Canadian nuclear plants.
For example, I recently commented on this list about the shutdown of the
A reactors at Pickering. No one really seems to know the details
about why this is happening. I sent an email to Pickering asking
for more information and got nothing back. OK - why should they
respond to me, they don't know who I am. But not being able to find
out sure makes it difficult to defend nuclear power to my
friends.
Something really needs to be done about the public relations dimension of
nuclear power.
