The msg from Jaro about a symposium next year on the potential
siting of a new nuclear power plant in Renfrew County, takes me back to 1989
when I undertook a study for AECL on
the possible siting of a CANDU 3 at Rolphton. This included a visit to the old
NDP site at Rolphton, a look at the des Joachims dam upstream and downstream. This
hydro dam was part of the Hydro Quebec system but could possibly provide a reliable
source of back-up power supply. The site visit was followed by a visit to Ontario
Hydro headquarters to discuss; -
costs of
incorporation into the Ontario Hydro system - site location, cooling water, transmission lines. - safety related
requirements of a site, including a reliable source of Group 2 service water - possible upstream
dam failures. OH were planning to study postulated failure a series of dams upstream
and consequences downstream. My report which should be buried in the AECL files,
included a possible station and plant layout, both NSP and BOP, adjacent to the
old NDP. Neil G. Craik 130 Oxford Street Fredericton New Brunswick E3B 2W3 phone (506) 454
