RE: [cdn-nucl-l] hmmm

Seems to me that AECL should be beaming at all the attention from Areva.  What better context to go to the government for solid and stable backing for the path forward.  The message: "CANDU technology is really good, it is proven, and it is right for Canada.  Our track record and our competitors' actions attest to that.  Just let us do our job."

Hey All,

Regardless of the decision for new build in Ontario, there is little doubt
that refurbs of Pickering B, Darlington B and Bruce B will go ahead - that's
12 units and likely $15 billion in services, for which AECL will undoubtedly
be a large contributor to.  Is it any wonder that Areva or any other company
would show interest in that kind of guaranteed cash flow over the next 20
years?  From the evidence presented in the story, 'Areva' could just as
easily be replaced with any other large manufacturing or services company
out there.

Areva has major programs in its own advanced reactor development - the EPR,
the SWR-1000, HTRs, and even the CNP-1000.  To think they have any interest
in seeing an ACR built seems quite unbelievable to me.

Well, IMHO, and what do I know, but I think they want the people, they
want to get rid of a competitor, and they want a showcase customer like
Ontario.  I doubt that they want the technology.  And I suppose
Canadians will get what they deserve.
