This shortage is a symptom of the fact that Ontario faces a shortage of
workers of all kinds. Too many people are retiring too fast, the birth
rate is way down, education has not been adequate, global heating is
making this world much harder to survive in, and we have been slow to
adapt. What I think this means is that we should be designing reactors
that are very easy to use. I like those "battery" concepts such as the
one proposed for Galena, Alaska. Drop it into the ground in the middle
of each small town, and leave it alone for forty years.
Also, this problem is not unique in Ontario. Japan, Russia, Spain are
all in emergency mode for the same reasons.
