[cdn-nucl-l] Lazy Sunday afternoon ponderings

Hello all,

I've spent my Sunday reflecting on a few nuclear related themes and I wanted to share some thoughts.

1)  There have been several mentions of the organization NA-YGN on this list.  The North American Young Genration in Nuclear is a great organization (http://www.na-ygn.org) and I encourage everyone to try to engage the young people at your organization to start a chapter.  There has been a New Brunswick chapter for some time, Bruce Power started a chapter last year,  NSS had their kick-off meeting a few months ago and, the purpose of this post,  I'd like to announce the official creation of NA-YGN Durham!  This is an OPG based group that should be having its kick-off meeting in the very near future.

There are some big names not on this list...  AECL, anybody in the fuelling business etc.  Let's get the younguns engaged!!

Anybody on here interested in helping out with an OPG chapter...especially by knowledge transfer (we new grads have a lot to learn!) can look me up in the company e-mail directory.

2.  I am putting out a call for information.  The recent Pickering A licence remewal hearings had a tremendous amount of support from community groups.  While the list of "community based" (I use the term loosely...there are a few imposters out there) anti-nuclear umbrella groups is extensive, there is no pro-nuclear equivalent.  When I was a student at UNB fighting to promote the PT. Lepreau refurbishment I found that extremely frustrating. I    still do!!  In conjunction with NA-YGN I want to change that by giving individuals and community groups a forum where they can express their views.  I know the anti's like to portray nuclear like a corporate juggernaut working against the will of the people but I am just a guy and I chose a career in nuclear because I thought it was great...I know lots of people both inside and outside the industry who think nuclear is great and it is time that something existed to showcase! this point.

To that end, if anybody knows any community group (or individual for that matter...although that would be time consuming) that may be interested in supporting a grassroots nuclear movement can you either give them my e-mail address or forward me their contact information.

Thank you!
Andrew L. Daley
