week, the first patient in a new Phase II clinical trial (EORTC Protocol
11011) received BNCT at the European Commission's High Flux Reactor at Petten in
the Netherlands. The patient was suffering from brain metastases of malignant
melanoma, and received the boron compound BPA. The treatment went well and
according to the protocol.
This was also the first time for such a patient to be treated in Europe. The trial is realized within a research project financed via the 5th Framework Programme of the European Commission and coordinated by Dr. Wolfgang Sauerwein. Approximately 4 years of preparation were necessary to prepare the trial including all legal and regulatory aspects.
