Here's an interesting letter that I missed a couple of weeks back..... Jaro ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.magma.ca/~drcanrt/letters.htm Nukes for North Renfrew I am writing to you about our energy supply in Ontario, or lack of it. With the coal plants at Ontario Power Generation shutting down in the year 2007, we will be in a shortage for electrical power at that time unless we act now. If we do not think of our future energy needs, we will be held hostage to imported electricity at the free market rate, buying fossil generated power, employing others instead of ourselves. I propose we build a two-unit nuclear station at the old Nuclear Power Site (NPD) in Rolphton. This would be an asset to the communities in this area and to Renfrew County. The site is still zoned as a Nuclear Site. The transmission line right of way already exists. The people are familiar with nuclear energy; you would not receive the opposition to this type of industry that you would from larger populated centres. It would bring people back into the area, so once again, the Laurentian Hills area can prosper, stores would reopen, and businesses and restaurants would thrive. Overall, this would be good for the area's economy. We were once a leader in the energy sector; other countries envied our ability to be self sufficient. With some forethought and immediate action, we once again can be self sufficient and possibly be able to sell power to our neighbouring provinces and countries.
