[cdn-nucl-l] AECL RECEIVES $46 M FOR RESEARCH, SUPPORT FROM GOVERNMENT ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Some good news ...

AECL RECEIVES $46 MILLION FOR RESEARCH, SUPPORT FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON
CLIMATE CHANGE

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) received both funding and support for
nuclear power research this year. Included in the federal government
supplementary budget estimates was $46 million in development funding for
AECL's Advanced CANDU Reactor.

"Under the climate change fight, nuclear energy in the longer term will play
an important role," said Natural Resources Canada Minister Herb Dhaliwal.
"In many international meetings that I've been to recently, there is a much
greater interest in nuclear energy now since we've got climate change as a
problem - so we think we have a great opportunity for Canada."

AECL has indicated it was pleased with the additional support provided by
the federal government and is optimistic that further funding will be
available.
