[cdn-nucl-l] Romania to complete 3 more CANDUs
Isn't it interesting how Romania and afford to build nuclear plants, while
we can't seem to manage it in North America.

ROMANIA CONFIRMS PLANS TO COMPLETE ALL FIVE CERNAVODA NUCLEAR REACTORS
Romania has confirmed its intentions to complete all five CANDU nuclear
reactors at the Cernavoda station. Unit 1 has been in service since 1996,
and Unit 2 is currently about 50 per cent complete. Romania confirmed at the
World Nuclear Symposium in London that it intends to complete Unit 3 under a
build-operate-transfer contract by 2011, with Units 4 and 5 to follow into
service by 2020.
Nuclear power offers significant cost savings for electricity production.
Electricity costs from nuclear power at Cernavoda are 2.3 cents U.S./kWh,
while electricity costs from fossil fuels in Romania range from 2.54-5.81
cents U.S./kWh. Romania produces its own fuel for its CANDU nuclear
reactors.
