Hi Chris and Jerry,

I'd just about guarantee the Geostar picture of the blackout is faked.  If
you zoom in about 10-20 times, you can see that the blackness was most
likely brushed in with a faded spray filler.  Also, it would never be darker
than anywhere else without lights, eg. the far north as you point out - good
call.

Note too that there is much more light shown than what the Geostar picture
shows.  These photographs are taken by the Defense Meteorological Satellite
Program (DMSP) F-series satellite Operation Linescan System with 0.56 km

Unfortunately this photo might be a fake.  The black-out area is un-
naturally black.  Have a look at northern Canada where there is 
nothing, yet you can still see the outline of land.  This is because 
the surrounding water absorbs much more light than land.
Any opinions?
