Jerry,
By using the superpower of Google I
found...
Superman's home planet was Krypton. It did
explode.
a little searching found
http://theages.superman.ws/Encyclopaedia/krypton.php#planet
The Planet
Krypton was a planet of giant size
located somewhere in the outer reaches of trackless space. Described as an
unusual planet with a unique atmosphere and a tremendous gravitational pull far
greater than that of Earth, Krypton had a massive uranium core and was
occasionally swept by windstorms so violent that the planet's tallest
skyscrapers had to be lowered into the ground to prevent their being toppled by
the powerful gales.
so it did have a uranium core...

Subject: [cdn-nucl-l] Superman reference?
" Nuclear Heart of the Earth " CNS-SP seminar [FW]
Can anyone find the (comic book) reference to
this event?
Probably Morgan or Adam can.
(Our list seems to get rather wide
exposure.)

incorrect: " Nuclear Heart of the Earth " CNS-SP seminar [FW]
Regarding the "nuclear Earth" scenario: Does anyone else on
this list recall, as I do, the "Superman" comic books of the 1950s, according
to which Superman came from a planet destroyed by the self-destruction of its
fissionable core? (I'm pretty sure my memory of childhood hasn't failed me
here.) Is "science" imitating "art" (if you can call it that) in this
instance? Any comments welcome.
