[cdn-nucl-l] California can afford to import power. Senator Dianne Feinstein: Currently, there is no good method for the storage of the dangerous nuclear waste that is a byproduct of nuclear power generation.

It's so nice to be able to afford importing electric power from neighbouring states.

California doesn't need new electric generation plants except for windmills and solar systems.  They can get the rest of what they need from the other states in the West, as they do today.

Most of us in California knew of this problem.  What we need to do is get the Law changed!  I have repeatedly requested my elected Assemblyman and Senator to get the law changed, but they both say the political climate in Sacramento will not permit it.  So there you are.  No new nuclear plants in Calif. until there is a demonstrated waste system, and a reprocessing system.  Not too likely in the foreseeable future.

Dear Mr. Cramer:

Thank you for writing to me to express your support for
nuclear power.  I appreciate your letter and I welcome the
opportunity to respond to your concerns.                Emphasis supplied by ENC

Our energy problem is so severe that we need to consider
every option to mitigate the crisis, however current state law in
California prevents the siting of new nuclear power plants until a
technology is developed for the permanent disposal of high levelnuclear waste.
Currently, there is no good method for the storage
of the dangerous nuclear waste that is a byproduct
of nuclear power generation.

As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources
Committee, please be assured I will keep your comments in mind as
the Federal government considers nuclear power.

Again, thank you for writing me.  If you have any questions,
please feel free to call my Washington, D.C. staff at (202) 224-
3841.

     With warmest personal regards.
