[cdn-nucl-l] Chinese-Russian research reactor project
Posted in Nuclear.Ru agency (http://www.nuclear.ru)
China has allocated 1 billion Yuans (about 120 million US dollars) for the
completion of the country's first experimental fast breeder reactor, in a
joint project with Russia.
Construction of the 65 MWatt (thermal) Chinese experimental fast reactor
(CEFR) at the China Institute of Atomic Energy, 40 kilometers from Beijing,
began in 1999.
Several Russian organizations are involved in the project and are providing
equipment and fuel supplies for the reactor, which is expected to be
commissioned in 2005.
The main reactor building was completed in August 2002, while Russian
specialists say they plan to install the main equipment at the site by 2004.
Chinese specialists will also take part in training courses organized by
Russia to enable them to operate the reactor independently in the future.
