I SAID I was a LAZY engineer... Such shortcuts
would cause me to go back and redo work that had
already been put to bed. I long ago learned that
it is, in the long run, easier and cheaper to do
it right the first time. There seems to be the
attitude these days that "we should get it done
any old way, there will always be time to go back
and fix it later..." Well, "later" never seems to
come: until, that is, the "any old way" results in
a crisis. As a case in point, I suggest the
recent "Y2K" (Year 2000) problem. It's not as if
the immanence of the Year 2000 was not apparent in
1990.
