[cdn-nucl-l] Exelon's growing nuclear fleet
Several weeks ago I posted a message that described Exelon's reactor fleet as
growing. There were several questions about the direction for that growth. It
appears likely that one area for immediate expansion is to increase the
ownership share for the three reactors that are currently owned by Amergen, a
joint venture with British Energy. This sale is projected as part of the
reorganization of BE. Entergy is apparently also interested in purchasing
British Energy's holding in Amergen, but I would bet on Exelon.
I had also expected Exelon to be a prime contender for the BE's Canadian
holdings in Bruce Power, but a recent Google search revealed that a CAMECO
led consortium won the bidding war. Here is an article about the total
package deal.

It looks to me like CAMECO got a great price, but that is to be expected in a
situation where the seller is being forced to sell in a hurry. I would warn
CAMECO to watch their partners carefully, though. Transcanada Pipelines may
be interested in something other than maximum profitability from their stake
in Bruce Power.
