[cdn-nucl-l] NPD to become ANS Historic Nuclear Landmark

Title: NPD to become ANS Historic Nuclear Landmark

FYI -  the American Nuclear Society has designated NPD (Nuclear Power Demonstration), near Rolphton, Ont., an "ANS Historic Nuclear Landmark".  Recognition of this designation will take place at the 2002 ANS Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., at the Honours & Awards luncheon on Nov. 19.  Many thanks to Ben Rouben (AECL, CNS member, ANS member) for conceiving and preparing the submission.

A bronze plaque will be presented at a later date (exact location of plaque to be determined).  NPD's 40th anniversary was celebrated in June of this year by the Canadian Nuclear Society, highlighted by the unveiling of a historic plaque from the Ontario Heritage Foundation.  This OHF plaque is located at the Des Joachims hydro dam lookout (OPG) 2 km to the west of NPD on Hwy. 17, and will soon be accompanied by a large interpretive sign sponsored by the CNS.
