[cdn-nucl-l] reply re. nuclear still the cheapest option in Ontario
OPG says investments in PA are cost effective and BE says that new
nuclear is uneconomic. Both companies make these comments in an effort
to lobby for more government subsidies. How can their stories appear so
inconsistent? One possible explanation is that if BE issues misleading
statements, the company can expect lawsuits from shareholders. OPG knows
it cannot be held to this standard. This distinction illustrates one of
the reasons why privatization is a necessary (but not sufficient) step
if we are to ever understand the real cost of nuclear energy.
