General Physics Corporation Awarded Control Room Operator
Training Contract At Canadian Nuclear Power Plant
COLUMBIA, MARYLAND--
GP's Reputation as the Leading Provider of Training Services to
the U.S. Nuclear Industry Instrumental in Obtaining Point Lepreau
Generating Station Contract in Canada
General Physics Corporation (GP), a wholly owned subsidiary of GP
Strategies Corporation (NYSE:GPX), was recently awarded a contract
to develop classroom training for Control Room Operators at the
Point Lepreau Generating Station in New Brunswick, Canada.
Point Lepreau is a CANDU heavy water moderated reactor operated by
New Brunswick Power Corporation (NB Power). GP won the contract in
a competitive bid process due to their being the leading provider
of training services to the U.S. nuclear industry and having vast
experience and expertise in the application of Systematic Approach
to Training (SAT).
The Canadian nuclear industry is transitioning the way they train
personnel, and have elected to follow the SAT process that the
U.S. industry adopted in the 1980's. Under the contract, GP will
develop classroom training on power plant systems and procedures,
as well as provide one cycle of instruction for the upcoming
Control Room Operator class.
The training that GP provides can significantly shorten the
learning curve associated with adoption of SAT and
performance-based training in the classroom. This will ensure that
the next generation of operators will to continue to provide safe
and efficient operations providing electricity to the NB Power's
customers.
Jeff Klein, VP of Nuclear Energy Services for GP, was quoted as
saying: "We are quite excited about this opportunity. While we
have extensive experience with all U.S reactor types as well as
RBMK and VVER units in the Former Soviet Union, this is the first
time working on a CANDU design. We are very proud of the fact that
NB Power saw fit to select GP based on our knowledge of the
Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and our vast U.S.
experience. We are confident that we will add significant value to
the client's efforts as they adopt the SAT."
