 CENTRE FOR NUCLEAR ENGINEERING FORMED IN UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO

            The University of Toronto has formed a new Centre for Nuclear Engineering within its Department of Applied Science and Engineering, and the new department will be offering courses starting in 2002.

            The new nuclear engineering department is headed by Director Dr. James Smith. Its purpose is to support post graduate student research and teaching in nuclear engineering, to strengthen nuclear engineering in undergraduate curricula, to offer a Masters Program in nuclear engineering, and to provide seminars for professional development. Topic areas of the new engineering department include large and small reactor physics, turbine and secondary side systems, nuclear safety, materials and water chemistry, instrumentation and control, isotope production and waste management.
