NUCLEAR NEWS FLASHES - Monday, July 9, 2001
--NUCLEAR ENGINEERS WERE IN THIRD PLACE IN A RANKING OF ENGINEERS by salary,
according to the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Income
and Salary Survey. The median income of a full-time salaried nuclear
engineer was $102,970 at the end of 2000, the survey said. Forensic
engineers topped the list with a median income of $143,500, knocking off
petroleum engineers ($114,616), who had held the top spot for the last 10
years. Forensic engineers, among other categories, were included on the list
this year for the first time because it was the first time they responded in
numbers large enough to be recorded. About 8,000 engineers replied to the
surveys sent out in late 2000. NSPE has about 59,000 members. To order
