RE: [cdn-nucl-l] What's required for an Atomic Energy boy scout patch...
Is the story true? Who knows?
There are 19 references on Yahoo! when I searched for ["David Hahn"
radioactive scout]. Most appear to be reprints of the story, including
Reader's Digest
http://www.readersdigest.ca/mag/1999/05/icrd.html?printer_version=1
The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists carried a version of this story, at:
http://www.bullatomsci.org/issues/1999/jf99/jf99bulletins.html
Repetition of a story does not mean it's true. It could be an urban myth
for all we know, even though the Bull of Atom Scientists link does give it a
slightly higher status. I briefly searched the EPA or NRC sites, but didn't
find any clues.
What about you physicists out there - is the article plausible?
cheers
Morgan
