[cdn-nucl-l] Sierra Club opposed to CNF

Hi All!

Apart from being completely off on the $$$ (500 million
construction and 45 million operating was the '94 estimate - since then
the CNF home page www.cnf.gc.ca, quotes the cost at $388 million
construction, $14.2 million operating), I think the Sierra Club has a good
point - why is there no private funding going into CNF? Not through COG?
Was this ever proposed at lest for a share of the cost? OPG and other
operators do perform fuel tests up at NRU (failed fuel, etc.) but I
assume they buy that time from NRU to do the tests.
They also call for 'zero emissions' during routine and operating
and a full containment system. If there is a problem with the amount of
emissions, they should probably be targeting the CNSC as they monitor and
regulate the limit prescribed for the reactor. Does anyone know the
extent of emissions the CNF will produce and the level of containment in
the design?
