[cdn-nucl-l] Romania & Cernavoda-2
It was nice to see the attached interesting article saying that Cernavoda-2
in Romania is getting more likely to be completed. This is good for the
nuclear power community and eastern Europe. Here's an excerpt from
Nucleonics Week:
ROMANIA APPROVES FINANCING OF ITS PORTION OF CERNAVODA 2 CANDU REACTOR
The Romanian government has approved a financial package to support its
portion of the completion of the second CANDU unit at Cernavoda. It is the
intention of the Romanian government and its electric utility Renel to have
the second unit in service by 2006.
The financial package follows the Romanian government declaration in 1997
that completion of the second unit was a national priority. For 2000, the
Romanian government has budgeted more than $40 million U.S. from the
national budget, along with approximately $25 million U.S. from a special
energy development fund.
Romania is also negotiating with Atomic Energy of Canada and the Italian
firm Ansaldo for completion of the reactor...
