I'm just delighted to see the Ontario Power Generation
full-page ad in the (Saturday) September 16 issue of The Globe and Mail
newspaper, page O2. Finally, Ontario's prime supplier of electricity is
taking a positive position, publicly, on the very beneficial environmental and
medical aspects of nuclear power. (OPG makes cobalt-60 in some of its
CANDU reactors.)
I expect letters from anti-nuclear activists
criticizing this ad, so we have to pre-empt (and counter) these activists with a
flood of positive letters supporting OPG's view that nuclear energy
"plays a vital role in keeping our air clean".
Quote:
The benefits of our nuclear stations are quite
clear.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not only does emission-free nuclear energy play an
important role in keeping Ontario running, it also plays a vital role in keeping
our air clean. Nuclear energy accounts for half of our overall generating
mix - along with hydroelectric and fossil. This unique mix of power
sources allows us to generate 75% of our electricity with no smog producing
emissions. And through our contribution to nuclear medicine, we're helping
to save lives every day through early diagnosis and treatment. Nuclear
energy. It's just one more way we're helping find better, cleaner ways to
keep Ontario running today and in the future.
Putting our energy to good use. Ontario
