About CBCN-L

Canadian Botanical
Conservation Network
Le Réseau Canadien pour la
Conservation de la Flore

The Canadian Botanical Conservation Network (CBCN) is a registered charitable organization dedicated to aiding the conservation of Canada's natural biological diversity. CBCN began as a joint project of Royal Botanical Gardens (Hamilton/Burlington, Ontario), Environment Canada and McMaster University in 1995. The network is administered by the RBG's Botanical Conservation Office, and is coordinated by Dr David A. Galbraith.

The CBCN-L discussion list has operated since 1996. CBCN also produces its web site and a regular newsletter to promote better communications among plant conservation institutions and specialists in Canada.

CBCN's main projects at present are a biodiversity action plan for botanical gardens and arboreta in Canada, and in collaboration with Royal Botanical Gardens, a seed gene bank for rare and endangered native plants.

Everyone interested in plant conservation, biodiversity or botanical gardens are invited to participate in the CBCN-L list and other CBCN programs. For more information, please subscribe to the list or contact David Galbraith at dgalbraith@rbg.ca.
